Exactly the same as the filter method.
Measure finely ground coffee into the filter-lined brew basket, give
it a gentle sideways shake to level the bed, and place it into
position for brewing. Pour fresh, cold water into the tank. Turn the
machine on and wait for the coffee to brew, which should take four
to six minutes. (If the brewing time is more than six minutes, the
machine is suffering from hardening of the arteries and needs
de-scaling.)
Always stir a pot
of filter coffee before serving the first cup, as the strongest and
best coffee is at the bottom of the pot. Never leave coffee on a
hotplate for more than about 40 minutes. Never set an empty pot on a
hotplate. The most common complaint about electric filters is that
the hotplate temperature is too low. If it is not adjustable, either
buy a better machine, or after brewing, immediately transfer the
coffee to a good pre-heated vacuum flask.
Keep your filter machine clean:
wash not only the jug, but the brew basket as well. Wipe old coffee
from the spray heads where the water goes over the coffee; if they
clog up, the coffee will be unevenly filtered. Wipe old
coffee-liquid residue from the hotplate so that it heats evenly.
De-scale your machine regularly; de-scaling will prolong the machine's
life. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, or run a strong
dilution of water and vinegar through the machine, turning it off
while the dilution is inside, and leaving it to sit for half an hour
before turning it on and completing the "mock" brew. Run at least
two pots of plain water through the machine to clear it of any
de-scaler before using the machine to make coffee.
