Are coffee trees sprayed with chemicals to
protect against insect infestations?
In some areas, chemicals are needed to control
insects. Spraying may touch coffee cherries. The coffee beans are
practically unaffected. These are covered by layers of pulp (or
fruit), parchment and silver skin. These components are removed in
the processing of coffee, taking the chemical residue with them.
Further, the roasting and brewing of coffees exposes any residues of
chemicals to high temperature, hence further assuring their
elimination.
