Coffee from Cameroon

Coffee from Cameroon

Cameroon
Cameroon began coffee-growing in 1913 thanks to a German officer, and today Cameroon produces 1.41 per cent of the world's coffee crop. Although two-thirds of its production is Robusta, some of the Arabica was actually brought from Jamaica and now bears the varietal name of Blue Mountain, as is the case in several African countries. The Arabica is grown between 1,000 and 1,800 meters high, and is graded by alphabetical letters, A being the best. France is a major buyer of Cameroon coffees, both Arabica and Robusta, an example of how the old colonial ties still exist. France's taste for blends containing a lot of strongish Robusta may well derive from the fact that this is what many of its colonies grew.
