Formerly Zaire, this large country in
the middle of Africa is mostly a Robusta grower, but its combined
growths add up to about 0.76 of one per cent of world production,
making it the 25th largest producer in the world. The eastern part
of the country cultivates Arabica at an impressive 1,700 meters,
mostly in the province of Kivu, which gives the bags their name. The
superior grades of Kivu have been deemed nearly perfect by some
experts: "even" in appearance and roast, with well-balanced body and
acidity in the cup; however, they are extremely difficult to find. |
