This island, so noted for its tea,
produces a tiny 0.02 of one per cent of the total global production
of coffee. Much of its crop is Robusta, which was introduced by the
British in 1870 when the Arabica crop rusted. The general consensus
is that Sri Lankan coffees are not very good. Nevertheless,
travelers and tourists tell another story, so whether their taste
buds are blinded by the beauty and aura of the island, or whether
the home brew really is better remains to be seen: this is another
for the "travel" list. |
